Older People’s Assessment and Rehabilitation Service (OPARS)
The Older People’s Assessment and Rehabilitation Service (OPARS) is a specialist outpatient service for people aged over 65.
Overview of the service
The OPARS service assesses and rehabilitates people aged 65 and over, who have a physical or medical condition which affects their functional ability for example walking, balance or hand function.
We do this by providing medical, nursing and rehabilitation to improve or maintain their health and wellbeing and enable them to remain independent within their own home. There are two assessment and treatment options:
- Medical and therapy assessment and treatment
- Therapy/nursing rehabilitation only.
Who can access this service?
To access this service patients must:
- Be aged 65 years or over
- Be registered with a Sutton GP
- Have the mental capacity to participate in individual and group activities in a rehabilitation setting.
Team members who could be involved in patient care
- Occupational therapists
- Nursing staff
Is patient self-referral available?
No, patients will need a referral from their GP to access the OPARS service.
Is transport provided?
Transport is arranged for those who are unable to travel independently to the service.
Are home visits available?
