Special Schools Service

The Special Schools nursing team supports children during the school day to ensure that their health needs are met and that they are enabled to participate in education.

Objective of the service

Following an assessment of their health needs, the team of nurses and healthcare assistants will agree a care plan with each child and their family. The child will be supported with any identified health needs during the school day whilst they attend Sherwood Park School. Interventions may include:

  • gastrostomy feeding
  • administration of prescribed medication
  • management of epilepsy.

Inclusion criteria

All children of school age who attend Sherwood Park School

Referral information

All children who attend Sherwood Park School will be notified to the school nursing team by the school - therefore there is no need to do a separate referral.
